The president of Factor 5 who are developing Liar for the PS3 has slammed the ESRM games rating system, calling it 'absolutely bizarre' and is calling for alterations to be made in order to bring it in line with the film classification system. Factor 5 went though a lengthy process with the board in order to secure a Teen rating, with the president remarking that you can set 5,000 people on fire virtually bu that's all OK as there is no blood. Factor 5 also expressed concern at the treatment of Manhunt 2 as well as a desire for sex scenes to be more acceptable in video games.

Quote:
Julian Eggebrecht, the president of Factor 5, drew on the example of the company's own game, the dragon-fighter Lair for the PlayStation 3, for which the company really wanted to get a T for Teen rating in the US, because teenagers make up a big part of the game's potential audience. He said, "Teenagers are really into dragons."

In order to do this, Factor 5 went through a process with the ESRB over "weeks and months," where it tweaked every bit of the game that the ESRB wanted it to in order to secure a T for Teen rating.

Eggebrecht said, "You can set up to 5,000 people on fire, and they run around and scream, and that's fine because there's no blood."
