A rumor is floating around on the web that a large proportion consoles returned to Microsoft claiming to have the 'red ring of death' are not due to over-heating, but are in fact due to gamers getting caught up in all the red ring hysteria. If the video cable is not connected properly, this results in the four light contrants going red, this coupled with the large amount of publicity on the red ring of death issue has resulted in some consumer mis-diagnosis. Further speculation suggests MS are looking to disable the four red ring error code in order to prevent people becoming confused.
